Re: Mac games on Linux
I have been wondering this myself......... Even Mac now have Steam with a sweet set of native games.........
it would not be hard to port those games over to Linux but it hasn't happened yet.... Me thinks somebody has got their hands in somebodies pockets

There are even less Linux users than Mac users, and it will have to be profitable to have steam on Linux in order for it to be worth the effort. They also have to deal with different file formats for different package managers. Those are the issues I can think of off the top of my head, but it doesn't seem to hard to get it running on Linux. It would be nice to get more games running on Linux.

Linux is UNIX like but OS X is actually a fully qualified UNIX operating system. You have to remember that the heart of OS X came from BSD so if anything I would guess that the BSD people would have more chance of running them. Incidently, it was valves porting of the orange box for the xbox that paved the way for source based games to become available on the mac.

Still, you'd hope that with Valve's OpenGL implementation on the Mac that, that would really help to break down the barrier to port to Linux.
There's also Postal 3 coming to Linux on the Source engine, again I dunno but hopefully that could help the situation?
In any case I'd love Steam for Linux and the Source engine. I've said it before but I'd buy multiple copies of whatever games they'd port over just as a thank you to them.
