Computer does not shut down or boot up properly! Empty Computer does not shut down or boot up properly!

Post  Gee7o7 Mon Oct 03, 2011 8:17 pm

I am using a custom built machine I made myself I am running Ubuntu Linux 11.04 64-bit version every time I boot up my machine there is a rectangular box up top on my screen when it says "UBUNTU" and when I am booting down I either get the same as the boot up problem I described or I get a black screen and in 5 seconds a bunch of codes and words pop up and the screen automatically zooms in and freezes.

do you use Wifi? and if so what chipset is it? It "could" be a problem with the wrong driver causing this issue while shutting down which i have seen happen before like here

sure

but first of all.... did you install a graphics driver at all? or did you just install ubuntu and not install any driver? do you remember opening the "hardware drivers" gui and enabling a graphics card driver? if not... then i would look for that hardware driver package in your menu and install the ati driver that it recommends......
